Celebrating Women's History Month

KNCT continued celebration of Women's History Month features a conversation with Killeen's Mayor Debbie Nash-King

Mayor Debbie Nash King

Mayor Debbie Ann Nash-King is a native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. After completing high school, she attended the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. After being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, she attended the Medical Services Corp Officer’s course and completed her military tour as the Fort Hood Dental Clinic’s Company Commander. Upon leaving the Army, she immediately entered graduate school and earned a Master’s Degree in Human Resources from Tarleton State University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California. She is also an ordained minister.

Following her service to her country, Ms. Nash-King attended Leadership Killeen and became heavily involved in another kind of service- volunteering wholeheartedly on behalf of a variety of important causes. She has served as vice president of Killeen’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), secretary of Killeen Volunteers, Inc., and board member of the Killeen Independent School District’s Education Foundation.

Ms. Nash-King currently serves as a member of the Killeen- Heights Rotary Club, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and Killeen Sister Cities. As well as, the Osan Korean Committee, Killeen Branch NAACP, League of United Latin American Citizens 4535, and Veterans Helping Veterans. She is also a part of the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association Genevieve Chapter 94, Central Texas Fort Hood Chapter AUSA Board of Governors, and Area Veterans Advisory Committee (Community Relations Chair). Also, she is a recipient of the 2019 Girl Scouts Women of Distinction Award.

She lives in Killeen, Texas. Furthermore, she currently serves as the mayor of Killeen. She was married to the late Command Sgt. Maj. (retired) Elijah King, Jr., and she has one daughter, Elizabeth.
